Today I am spending the entire day making sugar cookies, wrapping up a few last minute gifts and looking forward to spending my first Christmas with my boyfriend! This is also our first Christmas in Kansas City. So though I'm suffering a through a touch of homesickness, we are really looking forward to getting to spend the day together!
Sometimes (almost all the time) it can be challenging to come up with a look for the blog or just for everyday, and I find that it always helps to have a little bit of inspiration. Many of you may not know that I am a huge Gilmore Girls fan. The biggest fan that ever was. Way before they put the series on Netflix, I asked for and received the entire dvd collection and have now watched the entire series more than 40 times. I know most every line of every episode, and suffice it to say Gilmore Girls is my favorite series. (Breaking Bad takes a very very close second.) So it felt natural that my favorite T.V. series would inspire my wardrobe choices, no? Today's look is inspired by Episode 5, Season 5: We Got Us A Pippi Virgin!. In the episode, the gang visits the BWR Movie Theater, or the Black White and Red Movie Theater, and it's one of my favorite episodes. So I pulled my inspiration from BWR and came up with this look! (Also, thoughts on making this into a series? A Gilmore Girls inspired fashion blog? I would read it.)
Now down to the outfit deets!
Remember when I said I found the perfect coat? I changed my mind.
I ended up deciding that as much as I loved that camel coat, I liked the grey color better on me and I feel like it will go with more of what I already own. So I switched out my camel coat for a heather grey, and I couldn't be happier!
This coat is one I feel I can really dress up or down, layer and match, add bright pops of color (if I feel so inclined to to crawl out of the all-black hole I've dug myself into as of late.) I am obsessed with the idea of black-and-white, clean lines, and simple dressing for this winter and the coming spring. This dress from Asos accomplishes all of those things. It's the perfect balance of style and simplicity. I've also been loving the idea of metallics- something I once thought was more of a gaudy trend I now love for it's sleekness and shine. This silver fold over clutch is actually from West Elm- believe it or not! And to complete the look I threw on a scarf I have been living in since the cooler temps hit…a chunky red scarf that makes the entire outfit pop (and gives it a very merry feeling.)
