Living Room Reveal

The History

Today is such an exciting day, because I’m finally (finally) sharing our living room! This day has been years in the making and I can’t believe it’s here. We knew when we bought this house that the entire home would need a renovation, and this room was one of the worst. It was dark and dated, and the air was thick with cigarette smoke, which had yellowed the walls. The windows were cracked and needed to be replaced, popcorn ceilings, and old carpet. It was in need of a complete renovation. (Scroll all the way down to see the before pictures!) It’s taken a long time to get where it is today - there was no design team, construction crew, or big budget - it happened slowly and over time, and the work on this room was entirely done by us!

The Design

One of my main goals with this room was to highlight some of the original architectural features of the space - the symmetry of the fireplace and adjacent windows, and the large bay of windows on the longer wall. Because this is the first room you walk into when you enter the house, a challenge was figuring out how to create both a living room and entryway in one space. I feel this was accomplished by creating a division in the room with the sofa and sofa table - separating the living space from the entry space. I love blue and white, and I wanted a light and airy feel. So we went with classic white windows and trim, and a perfect light blue paint for the walls. I love touches of gold, so I wanted to warm up all the blue and white in the room with touches of brass everywhere - from the curtain hardware to the fireplace screen. I also used touches of marble throughout the space - from a small martini table in the entryway to the fireplace tile. Keep scrolling for more pictures plus all resources!
