Fall 2024 Runway Looks and Trends

Clair Rose in Dior at Paris Fashion Week

With another fashion month come and gone, I’ve rounded up my favorite looks from all of the Fall/Winter 2024 shows to share them here. I’m not sure if my taste is becoming more discerning or if there were just overall fewer looks to love this season, but I don’t think I’m alone in that thought. This season felt quite disorganized and difficult to pin down some overall trends - many looks and collections were less ready to wear and more avant garde. Still, a few collections stood out. Christian Dior remains one of my favorite design houses, and while I loved the glamorous flapper style dresses that trounced down the runway, I was left wanting for their delicate and detailed embroidery skills. Akris was a surprising hit for me - I loved their tip-toe into some more glamorous and fashion forward evening looks. At Chloe, I loved the return to true 70’s bohemian flair, and at Carolina Herrera, classic pieces with trademark latin american details stole the show.

Trends

Black is Back

Every single look at Valentino was black this season, and I can’t quite recall a clearer message from one brand. Personally I used to avoid wearing black because it felt quite masculine and intimidating to me, but when I think about how a Parisian might wear a black dress or top, it feels much more accessible and elegant. I’m slowly leaning into this trend. I love wearing white, but a little contrast now and again is a good thing.

Beading

Multiple designers including Christian Dior and Carolina Herrera leaned into subtle beading rather than embroidery this season for their more glamorous looks. Beading added a touch of elevation without taking over an entire look.

Capes

Capes were prevalent at both Dior and Chloe, as well as several other shows. I’m eager to see how this translates into truly wearable pieces this fall - a cape has been on my fall/winter wishlist for a while!

Fringe

While I loved how this trend appeared most at Victoria Beckham, who feautered a stunning strapless black dress white silver fringe studded bustier that draped to the floor, it could also be seen at Chloe in the form of fringe pants and on Christian Dior’s flapper dresses.

A Cool Coat

A cool-girl stand out coat will be a staple for fall. From the snowball-like fur coats at Michael Kors and Chloe to the sheer trench at Tom Ford, a good coat can define your fall wardrobe. I’m excited to incorporate this into my wardrobe this fall.
